One of Don’s favorite verses is Psalm 46:1, “God is our Refuge and Strength, a very present help in trouble.” He finds joy in knowing Jesus and sharing the Lord’s kindness with others.  Don is excited to see all that the Lord is doing at St. John’s Church, the Nurturing Center, and at Elderlife.
Some of his favorite things are: reading, visiting historic places, sports, nautical things, doughnuts, frozen yogurt, and much more. While currently petless, the family has had many pets including Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs, dogs, cats, a parrot and more. He enjoys Toledo and the area very much.

Ryan Shields

Assistant Pastor

Ryan was raised in Millbury, Ohio before making the long journey to work in Genoa. Ryan has served as St. John’s youth pastor for the last nine years. Before becoming a youth pastor, Ryan served as a praise band and small group leader at his former church. He has also played in a touring rock band (ask him about his days of jet black hair and eyeliner). He is currently studying at Owen’s Community College and Moody Bible Institute.

Ryan’s favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:38-39: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Ryan lives with his lovely wife, Holly, and their dog, Balor. Ryan and Holly were married in 2014. Ryan enjoys modern worship music. His favorite artists are the David Crowder Band, The Rend Collective, Gungor and Chris Tomlin. He also enjoys rock music of all kinds and Irish music, both traditional and modern. Both he and Holly enjoy 1950’s culture. In his spare time Ryan is an avid football fan (Go Blue! Go Niners!) and enjoys watching movies and going out to eat with his wife.
